Fill the Thank Full: Fourth Sunday in Advent 2013

It has been a slow moving, grumbly weekend that somehow disappeared all too quickly. Of late, I have been writing the Good (and Not So Good) Words late- between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. sometimes in the last fifteen minutes of a day. Tonight, I will take time to give thanks early because I am in need of a gratitude reboot before a long day of work tomorrow followed by somewhat frantic last minute holiday preparations.

Tonight, in this moment, I give thanks for:

  • The way the larger cat has curled most of himself inside a box that is just a bit too small for him.
  • The golden light of four Advent candles, candles of palm oil that I bought at Wild Iris Books.
  • A house that is a good way to being clean enough for company.
  • Homemade biscuits made by me to accompany homemade lentil sausage soup made by me and the spouse.
  • The ridiculous, blow up Santa perched on the roof of the house across the street. I can see its slightly glowing head from here.
  • Cold water to drink out of a bright, blue glass.
  • Dan Savage’s scathing review, Good Grief and Great Tits, of Sarah Palin’s book about Christmas.
  • Carving out time to do some financial/giving planning for 2014.
  • Sort of asinine games like Candy Crush for helping take the edge off the December doldrums.
  • Cheesy but fun Christmas movies like The Mistle-tones and Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger.
  • Satisfaction with the fact that I have written something in the voice of Bishop Bishop for 22 days running.
  • All that and so much more I give thanks for!
